Okay, let’s cut to the chase. 2022 was a pretty incredible year for music. However, I’m not gonna do a formal year-end list. I wanted to make a list of all the essential albums of 2022 that need to be heard, along with the honorable mentions and even the worst of the worst. These aren’t ranked, just albums I enjoy. Any genre is open, but there’s only one album per artist. I also want you to comment what your favorite album was this past year. I bet you’ll be surprised by some of the choices I have on here. Honestly, the fact that you’re reading this review now is a big deal to me. I *very* rarely mention anniversaries of albums that I love, but this is simply different. To go even further, hearing channel ORANGE for the first time as a kid was transformative. I saw this little orange CD on the new release stand at the local library and decided to pick it up. Again, I was literally 10 when this came out, so I had no idea what the intricacies of love and romance even were at that point, but putting that little disc inside my shitty portable CD player was certainly something. I literally didn’t know that a song could as perfect as “Pyramids” was and still is. Let me just be honest with something: This is my favorite album of all time. I gave it a relisten last night/this morning just to see if it’s in the running, and it easily took the cake. Earlier this week, the official nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards were finally revealed, and even if you think the Grammys aren’t hot shit anymore, I think it’s a big deal for newer artists. Having that ‘Grammy-nominated’ or ‘Grammy-winning’ stamp in front of your name is huge for smaller artists or artists who haven’t won Grammys yet. So, I’m gonna go through every major category and the categories I care about and list the nominees, who I think should win, and what I think will win in said category. Let’s get into it. I admit, it’s pretty self-explanatory, but let me go over some ground rules. 1: These aren’t ranked in any way. These are projects I liked categorized by month. 2: I’ll be offering my small thoughts on it, along with linking the full review. 3: There are albums that I’m gonna include that never got a full review. Those will have longer paragraphs and a rating. 4: Obviously, These are all my opinions, so if an album’s missing from this list, why don’t you comment on your favorite album of the year so far? Well, what a roller coaster today has been. The nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards have been announced today, and I’m pretty much going to give my thoughts on what the Grammys have deemed the best in music from the past year (almost). Let’s just get into it. In this section, I’ll be talking about the nominees. I’ll be saving my opinions on them for the next section. Leading the pack with 9 nominations is Beyoncé, with her single “Black Parade” being nominated for Song and Record of the Year. She also was nominated for Best Music Film for her Disney+ film BLACK IS KING . Her other source of nominations was from her remix of Megan Thee Stallion’s breakout “Savage.” The choices for Album of the Year were pretty eclectic this year. Opinions change. It always happens, especially when it comes to music. So, I’ve decided to start a little series about if any of my past reviews have become outdated. I’ll be choosing four past reviews since starting this page and revealing if I had seen it in a different way, both positive and negative. Let’s get right into it. Childish Gambino - 3.15.20 When I first reviewed this back in May, I felt very indifferent about it, eventually giving it a 5/10. I backed this up with thinking that while there are some pretty nice highlights like “Algorhythm” and “12.38” with 21 Savage, not much else hits these highs, mainly because of rough production that just simply turned me off of the overall sound. As I’ve re-listened to the album, I’ve warmed up to it, with “24.19” being one of my favorite tracks on the project, or maybe even of the year so far. As of October 31st, 2020, I’ve written 118 reviews and I also have a little piece on awards. This would be my 121st post, and I wanted to take a different direction today. I always get recommendations on what I should listen to, and I also keep a list of older albums that I’d want to review, new or old. Along with that, some of my reviews have gained some criticism because, well, I have opinions and some might differ from others. The most recent example of this is my thoughts on the new Ariana Grande album, positions . Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake is also an example of this.
