If nightcore gets a resurgence because of this album, I won’t know what to feel anymore. I have a fun history with Lady Gaga on this site. One of my earlier reviews was Gaga’s last studio album, Chromatica , and at the time, I was one of the only people in the middle of it. So many people thought it was either her best album or her worst album ever. I’ve been on a K-pop/J-pop kick throughout today, if I’ll be honest with you. There’s just a vibe about it I just really enjoy. I think it was that new BLACKPINK/Selena Gomez song that did it. Now, this isn’t a K-pop or J-pop album, but I had heard this album a couple weeks back, and I really wanted to write about it. There’s a lot of music out there that you just can’t get into. No matter what the reason, there’s always that type of music that you just don’t get the appeal of. That was bubblegum bass for me for the longest time. Rate Your Music describes bubblegum bass (or PC music) as taking ‘pop music and amplifying its cuteness and femininity to extreme levels.’ I’ve done some research, and former mainstream artists like Charli XCX have taken this route and has had a lot of success with this sound. Charli XCX has been popping up on my radar for a while now, and she’s always been a quiet yet powerful voice in music. Charli doesn’t have as big of a fan base of, say, BTS or Ariana Grande, but Charli’s fanbase is one of the vigorous out there. Her breakout single “Boom Clap” from the Fault in Our Stars was how many people first saw her, and while it wasn’t the best song on the planet, it was catchy as hell. Every now and then, that song still gets stuck in my head. As she’s dropped off of mainstream attention, she’s dropped some of the most addictive pop albums of the 2010s.
