Nas - King’s Disease III ALBUM REVIEW

He mentions the best character in Super Smash Bros. on this album.

It’s getting a little ridiculous over here. Starting this decade, Nas has been on an insane run. The first two King’s Disease albums are pretty good, with the second one being great, but his last release, Magic, is one of my personal favorites of his since its drop a little less than a year ago. The gel between all of these projects is Hit-Boy, producing every one of the aforementioned albums. Now, they’ve brought King’s Disease III to the table. Not really a lot to make an intro for, so let’s get into it.

I definitely don’t agree with this, but apparently there are some people out there that aren’t fans of the Nas/Hit-Boy pairing. So, I’ll counter that with this: I think that this is some of the best beats Nas has ever been over. The funniest thing is that Nas even has said on tracks that you buy my stuff for the lyrics, not the beats. I think that’s a good case for a lot of the middle section of his career, but ever since the first King’s Disease, he’s consistently had great beats from Hit-Boy. Yes, Nas is hitting a new wind in his career, but now he has some of the best production of his career. I think it’s absolutely insane to think that this isn’t a good pairing, and this is the fourth time they’re proving that point.

Either way, while I don’t think this hit as hard as Magic off of first listen, this is easily the best King’s Disease album. Why do I think this? Well, it’s all Nas. While I sort of agree with the fact that a lot of older rappers need some fresh blood to keep them on their toes, that’s not the case for Nas, at least on this album. Being able to carry an album this much on your own is tough for any rapper, but Nas just didn’t miss here. He just continues to get better and better and fucking better. I know he’s got nothing left to prove at this point of his career, but by the way he’s rapping on here, it seems like he has *everything* to prove.

Overall, King’s Disease III is pretty fucking awesome. You could argue that King’s Disease II is a classic, and I think Magic is a classic, but King’s Disease III is closer to Magic. Nas just gives his all into this project and it’s absolutely fantastic to see someone this late in their career continue to deliver this much.
