Juice WRLD - Fighting Demons ALBUM REVIEW

I just wanna play Shadow of the Colossus now.

For obvious reasons, I’m not the biggest fan of posthumous albums. They usually end up being cash grabs. Yes, we have rare exceptions like Life After Death, The Shining, and Circles out there, but we also have Faith, Bad Vibes Forever, and Duets: The Final Chapter. Since Juice WRLD tragically passed away in 2019, it seems like his label has been exploiting him and his music. It’s not as obvious as XXXTENTACION’s estate, but it’s still there. The first posthumous release, Legends Never Die, was admittedly a grower on me, yet it’s still plain as day that they’re just putting out music for the sake of using his name. Now, with Fighting Demons, it seems like it’s going to be the same. Let’s get into it.

I have to admit, I’m very surprised at the minimal amount of features on this. Posthumous albums like this tend to be loaded with features, so in a way, I appreciate this for just mainly being a Juice project. That being said, I do think the features were either misused, didn’t fit that song, or just to get some names. Arguably the biggest name on here besides Juice himself, Eminem, is only an interlude, which in itself is a snippet from an interview he had done. Trippie Redd makes more sense than Polo G in my opinion, but it honestly seemed better on paper to me. The inclusion of SUGA of BTS has been a massive debate among Juice’s fanbase, but since Juice has a song with the group and that connection is already established, it makes way more sense than Justin Bieber.

Outside of those somewhat odd choices, these are just unfinished Juice songs that the producers tried their best to salvage. I don’t think this is disrespectful at all, but there are leaked songs out there that certainly would be better than this, and I barely listen to leaks. Overall, Fighting Demons could’ve turned out a lot better. Even with the intentions of cementing the legacy of a generational talent, the Juice WRLD estate continues to fumble.
