Michael Giacchino - Spider-Man: No Way Home (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) ALBUM REVIEW

Really? At this point, was I not going to cover this? Either way, Michael Giacchino has been one of the most in-demand film composers working right now. He’s had his handprints on nearly every modern franchise still going today like Star Wars, Mission: Impossible, Jurassic Park, Planet of the Apes, and Star Trek, along with Pixar’s most memorable movies like Up and The Incredibles. Most of all, he’s been very involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even composing the fanfare that has opened every installment since 2016’s Doctor Strange, which he composed as well. Hell, the bits of his upcoming score for The Batman is already memorable. Giacchino has composed the other Spider-Man films in the MCU, so let’s just say he has the experience. Let’s not waste any more time and get into the score for No Way Home.
A constant theme in all of Giacchino’s scores is that the titles are just playful and typically make me laugh out loud. For example, the part in the movie where Doctor Strange performs the spell at first that’s the inciting incident of the movie is backed by “All Spell Breaks Loose.” Another thing to point out is the use of other Spider-Man scores from the past. It’s no spoiler to say that the other Spider-Man adversaries appear, so when Doc Ock first appears, elements from Danny Elfman’s original theme from Spider-Man 2 weaves its way into the song in a creative way. It’s little things like that that make me tear up, even while not watching the movie itself. The one thing that truly stands out is Giacchino’s own Spidey motif throughout the trilogy of films. It takes a much darker tone for a much darker movie, and without giving away any spoilers, it brings much more emotion than any Spider-Man movie has in the past. Overall, the score for No Way Home is easily the best MCU Spider-Man soundtrack. Michael Giacchino delivers one of the best scores of 2021 to accompany the film of a lifetime.
