Future & Lil Uzi Vert - Pluto x Baby Pluto ALBUM REVIEW

(Author’s Note: At the time of this writing, this is apparently the only registered written review of Pluto x Baby Pluto. If you search ‘Pluto x Baby Pluto review,’ I could be one of the first results. It’s a strange honor, but I’ll take it!)

Both Future and Lil Uzi Vert have had stellar years across the board. While I didn’t prefer Uzi’s one-two punch of Eternal Atake and LUV vs. The World 2 to his other projects, the amount of praise they’ve gotten for these projects are great, and it’s amazing to see him back in his bag to his fans. I was a much bigger fan of Future’s recent project, High Off Life, which is a celebration of what makes Future great and so influential to the trap genre. Now, after a couple of meh singles over the summer, Future and Uzi have teamed up for a whole album, titled after their respective nicknames Pluto x Baby Pluto. Let’s get into it!

Pluto x Baby Pluto is a hip-hop album with trap influences. Now, Uzi was featured on a track on Future’s last album, and I legitimately can’t remember a single note of it without having to listen to it. I don’t even remember the name of the song. Why am I telling you this, other than it’s a Future/Uzi collab? That’s the majority of this collaborative project. This thing is so predictable that it’s actually really sad. There’s no ambition from either artist, but that’s not really that surprising, if you think about it. At least Eternal Atake had Uzi take risks on what beats he chose, which were the best things about that project. In the case of Future, he sticks to his guns, and he kind of carries the project, in my opinion. There are some decent songs on here, I’ll be honest. “Sleeping on the Floor” is probably the best here, and it’s fun while it’s on, but it’s nothing that special. The worst here, and I had to think about this one, is “Marni on Me.” What the absolute FUCK is this? Each of their flows are atrocious on this, and the beat was fine until the vocals came in, but this is vile. “Marni on Me” is one of the worst things to touch my ears this year. Along with that, this is a collaborative project. They must sound good together, right? No. No, they don’t. They mix like oil and water, and I felt the same way on the track from High Off Life they did.

My expectations were low, but holy shit. Pluto x Baby Pluto is awful. Their fans could have their time with this, but Future and Lil Uzi Vert should’ve left all of this on the cutting room floor. Save for a track or two, there’s nothing redeeming about this project. Wow, I’m actually in disbelief. If they do another project together, it must be better, right? Right…?

2/10
